Google Docs and SkyDrive

Google Docs is a web-based spreadsheet, word processor, presentation and form application offered by Google. Similarly Windows Live Skydive is a range of online services provided by Microsoft.  Both are kind of file storage and sharing service that allows users to upload files to the computing cloud, allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users.

Google Docs vs. SkyDrive

Google Docs: There is a limit for storing to each user. For instance, documents may not exceed 500k, images most not exceed 2MB, in each spreadsheet 256 columns, 200, 000 cells, and 99 sheets are allowed. In total, user can have 5,000 documents and presentation, 5,000 images, 1,00 spreadsheets, and 100 pdfs  at one time.

Skydrive:  currently there are 25GB of free storage are allowed to each user, with individual files limited to 50 MB.

In Skydrive Up to five files can be uploaded each time if the tool has not been installed. However, in Google docs files may only be uploaded or downloaded one at a time

All Features

Sydrive:

  • Windows live photos: allows users to upload photos and let other access them online.
  • Office web apps: allows users to upload, create, edit, and share online Microsoft Office documents  including a light-weight versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, and provides functionalities for users to collaborate on the documents stored on SkyDrive.
  • Favorites sharing: SkyDrive integrates with Windows Live Toolbar to enable the sharing of bookmarked web links between users.
  • RSS feeds: It is possible to subscribe to RSS feeds of the content of public folders.
  • Download as .zip file: Directories can be downloaded as a single .zip file with this feature.

Google Docs:

Mobile Google Docs allows users to access their google docs through mobile phones. Versions of Google Docs for the iPhone and Android include functionality for editing spreadsheets and viewing presentations, along with an interface designed specifically for the device.

Documents can also be saved to the user’s computer in the following formats (OpenOffice, HTML, PDF, RTF, Text, Word).
